ivy had a friend over this week and it was a hot and sunny day, so we gathered some supplies and sat out in the shade for some wet felting. i saw some felted candy canes online a while ago (can't remember where now i'm afraid!) and bought some pipe cleaners in anticipation, it looked like fun!
heres how we did it...
gathered up some red, pink & white wool roving (green would have been nice too but was missing, i later discovered it tucked under yindi's pillow), pipe cleaners, washing up liquid and a bowl of warm water.

to make it easier for little hands we folded the long pipe cleaners in half. then with a thin piece of roving, starting at one end wrapped it around the pipe cleaner to cover it entirely...
after it was covered in white, using a thinner piece of red or pink, we wrapped that over the top to make it stripey...
then the best bit - wetting our hands and with a bit of washing up liquid on them rubbing the stripey stick between our soapy hands...adding a bit of water when needed, squeezing it out if it got too wet. rub rub rub...until it has really together. run it under a cold tap to rinse the soap out, bend one end to make the candy cane crook and leave in the sun to dry (which took about 5 minutes on this hot day!).
ta da!
and... raspberry smoothies were the perfect cool treat after all that crafty fun
guess which bit yindi loved the most?!!
