we spent a few mornings of our 'staycation' (dontcha love that word?!!) out in the woods working on some teepees made of sticks. it was a lot of fun working together - and each finding something we were good at to contribute - gathering, directing, weaving, designing.
(i heard a secret plan being hatched by dadda + daughter to sleep in them one night when they are covered with snow...to that i say good luck!)
i felt like a mumma bird weaving a little nest for my loves. there is something so pretty and comforting about sticks and twigs all woven together, isn't there?

eeek! that sounds like it could be so fun, although having lived through a few northeast winters & knowing how cold it can get, it would not be for the faint of heart. one year when brother was home on military leave me & him slept out on our trampoline the day after thanksgiving... super cold, but we still talk about how fun it was.
your photos are beautiful.

How fun! I love doing stuff like that with the kids when we're all together. I can just imagine yours with flowers and grasses woven in them during the spring and summer.

Gotta love those wiki-ups! I made one for a social practices art project last year. They are one of the very oldest human technologies. Makes you all feel primal and connected to the ancestors while you're building them, no? Yours look fantastic!

That is so awesome! What a fantastic idea! It looks sturdy and strong...I think a night under the stars would be perfectly safe under there! :)

Have you seen the work of Patrick Dougherty? He could inspire a whole new round of building! http://www.stickwork.net

That looks absolutely gorgeous, and what a fun whole-family activity! We have my partner's wee man (11 year old, so not that 'wee' anymore!) here with us in Tassie, all the way from Kalgoorlie! Suffice to say we are having some wilderness adventures of our own and it is wonderful to see him branch out a little bit more each day to independent play in the bush and wilderness :) Hope you're having a lovely cuppa of something delicious while you read this! All the best, Sash

So fun, what a great family project! We used to build things like this with our Brooklyn Waldorf group in the park there, I miss it. Makes me think of Andy Goldsworthy too.

We have one of these in our backyard! Fun, fun! Although it is kind of sparse and I think it needs some more weaving.

It's a cubby in the bush!! Good luck to those planning to camp out - with sleeping bags, snacks, and a run back home to warm up in the morning, why not? Cute :)
